The The hotel St Claude has been under new ownership since the beginning of 2014. As a small company with a reputation to be mindful of, we give our honest opinion, warts and all if necessary, when describing the relatively few hotels we have found that meet our expectations. It is in that spirit that we can personally say that we have always found the St Claude to be a well run hotel with clean reasonably modern rooms and satisfactory feedback on Trip Advisor over the past year (following change of ownership). My wife and I also choose to stay at this hotel ourselves when visiting the battlefields. The new owners of the hotel refurbished all the hotel rooms/bathrooms in 2015.
The St Claude, which now comes under the Comfort group of hotels (though remaining in private ownership) dates back to the Great War. Because of the age of the building many of the rooms are accessed by way of a series of narrow corridors running this way and that (but a lift to all floors) which can at first seem confusing.
There are several restaurants in and around Peronne, including the hotel's own restaurant, which the new owners are improving upon, with the option of Asian/Indian cuisine on the horizon!
Peronne plays host to France's principal museum to the Great War, the Historial Museum where exhibits are on show with translations in English. Click here for a look at the museum's website. The museum is just a few hundred metres from the hotel.
Please note that the Hotel St Claude is approximately 13 miles from the town of Albert from where your self-drive tour commences. The town sits alongside the River Somme and lies at the heart of the Somme Battle of 1916 when including the French sector to the south of the British forces.
