THE HOTEL
ROYAL PICARDIE |

The more luxurious 3-star Hotel Royal Picardie, which is now thankfully under new management (had attracted some negative reviews....), is situated on the outskirts of Albert. The casual visitor may not appreciate that The Hotel actually straddles what was once No Man’s Land, when the Front Line of 1918 was pushed to the edge of Albert as the Germans army advanced towards Amiens. The Hotel is located about ten minutes walk from the centre of Albert and the famous Basilica (of leaning statue fame). We have been using the Royal Picardie for both conducted and self-drive tours for over fourteen years. The rooms are just slightly on the small side, but on the plus side they have a separate bathroom (bath and over-bath shower) and separate WC. There is a large bar area and huge lavishly-furnished restaurant. The new owners are keen to appeal to visitors to the surrounding battlefields and have now introduced a competitive menu which my wife and I have always found to be good value (about 30 Euros for a set 3-course meal). Please note that some twin rooms comprise a double bed and a slightly narrower single bed, whilst others comprise two standard single beds.
